Young Urbanites at Hewett School
Between October 2005 and July 2006 Young Urbanites worked with a group of 14 Year 10 pupils at the Hewett School in Norwich.
The project, funded by Acorn Grants (European Social Fund), consisted of a 12-session social awareness programme with ASDAN accredited activities and a 3-day residential at Kidsklub in Stowmarket, which also included activities that were designed to offer accreditation.
The project was nominated for a Celebrate Award; an award ceremony set up by the Government Office for the East of England (Go East), the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) and the East of England Regional Assembly (EERA).
The Celebrate Awards recognise projects, funded by the European Social Fund, that are making fundamental differences to people, places and communities in Norfolk, Essex, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. It is the UK’s largest European funding ceremony.
From hundreds of entries the project was short listed in the Loving Learning category (for projects that provide opportunities for people in the region to develop new and potentially life changing skills).
In the largest of the eleven categories we received a Highly Commended certificate behind the category winners. As a small project we are extremely proud of this achievement.
