Social Awareness Workshops

The purpose of the Social Awareness Workshops is to encourage young people to reflect on how they see the world around them as individuals, family members and group members.

The workshops provide an opportunity for them to consider how their self perception, attitudes and actions can affect the way they are seen and treated by others, and how that may impact upon them.

Stereotypes

This workshop uses the school environment to introduce young people to stereotyping and its impact. It explores how they categorise their peers and how they, in turn, could be judged by others including staff.

Stereotypes and the media

This workshop looks at how newspapers tell society what young people are thinking and doing, and how it should react to them.

It will raise awareness of the power of images, how youth culture is presented, and how young people take on or reject media images.
